Plaza Cinema

The Ashton Cinema opened in February 1914 in the Ashton Gate area in the Bristol suburb of Bedminster. It was re-named Plaza Cinema in the mid-1940’s. It was always an independently operated cinema and closed c.1958.

It was converted into a supermarket and the building was last used as a carpet store, known as Imperial Carpets & Beds. The decorative details of the auditorium ceiling could still be seen inside the store. This has since closed and in May 2008 the building is being converted to apartments.

Never visited this as a cinema but the door to the front left was formerly the entrance to a snooker club “The Paragon” . I presume it used the upper level of the former cinema .
