Located in the district of Riddrie in the east-end of Glasgow on Cumbernauld Road at the corner of Warriston Street. The Riddrie Cinema was built for George Smith and James Welsh and opened on 20th March 1938. It is considered one of the masterpieces of architect James McKissack, with its ‘Moderne’ style curves on the white faiance tile facade, and columned recess’s each side of the proscenium arch in the auditorium.
It was sold to the George Singleton circuit on 7th January 1950 and was re-named Vogue Cinema. Closed in April 1968, it was converted into a bingo club which remains open today.
On 27th May 2008, Historic Scotland designated the former Riddrie Cinema a Grade B Listed building.
