Located inside Butlin’s Holiday Camp, which opened on 26th May 1962. The cinema was just one of the amusement facilities available to the holiday campers.

Butlin’s Minehead was renovated in the 1980’s and was re-named Somerwest World from 1986 until 1998. The company was taken over by the Rank Organisation in 1972 and by Bourne Leisure in 2000. The cinema was re-named ABC in the late 1990’s and was open to the general public on the purchase of a day pass, as well as holiday camp residents. When Odeon Theatres took over ABC Cinemas in 2000, the name was changed to Odeon briefly, but soon reverted back to ABC. The holiday camp complex is now known as Butlin’s Minehead.

From 19th July 2017, Butlin’s Minehead ceased to allow the general public into the site, citing security risks. The ABC Cinema in now for the sole use of holiday camp residents.

In early July 2017 Butlins announced that, from Wednesday 19th July, local residents would no longer be able to sign in at the entrance to gain access to the cinema. The company said this is so they know who is on the site at all times. Residents will still be able to access the camp’s facilities, including the cinema, by purchasing a £200 annual family ticket.
