Located in the centre of Brussels, this opened before World War I and was named Tour du Monde. In 1920 the Palladium Cinema was built next door at Rue Neuve 35. In the 1920’s the Tour du Mond became La Cigale, referred to as the ‘Parisian theatre’. Then in the 1940’s it was re-named Cinevox.

On 19th November 1954 after renovating it reopened under the name Astor Cinema, with Marlon Brando in “On the Waterfront” in a first run as the opening programme. That film played for 10 weeks. William Holden in “The Bridge on the River Kwai” played at the Astor Cinema from January 1958 to December 1958. It was a second run booking as the film had opened at the Metropole Cinema on 2th December 1967. It later become mostly a second run movie theatre. One of the last films to play at the Astor Cinema was Alfred Hitchcock’s “Family Plot” starring Karen Black & Bruce Dern which opened on 1st November 1976. The Astor Cinema was closed in 1977.
