The Quad Cinema opened on 28th September 2008. This purpose built cinema is the new home to the former Metro Cinema which operated on Green Lane from 1981 at the Derby Central School of Art building. In January 2007 it moved to a temporary home at the University of Derby, Heap Lecture Theatre and closed at that venue in late-Summer-2008.

The new Quad Cinema is located in Derby city centre on the edge of the Market Place. Seating capacities in the 2-screens are;230 and 128.
