Located almost opposite East Ham Railway/Tube Station, the East Ham Electric Theatre was opened on 20th October 1910, and was operated by Sir John Bethell. Seating was provided on a single level, steeply sloped foor.

By 1917, it had been taken over by new independent operators and re-named Academy Cinema. It was closed in 1922, and converted into a Woolworth’s store. Later demolished, a new building on the site was used as Wade’s Furnishings store by the 1990’s. In 2009, it is occupied by Sofa Living.
