While eightplexes were the norm for new builds at the time, Wometco upped the ante with 12 screens at Shadowood Square in 1988. Along with mainstream first-run fare, the Shadowood made an early commitment to alternative/international releases, which continues to this day. When first opened, each auditorium was not only numbered but named after one of Wometco’s past theatres. Two larger 200-seat auditoriums included 70MM capabilities.

Cobb Theatres inherited the Shadowood after acquiring Wometco’s remaining facilities in 1994, constructing four more small screens before Regal took ownership.
