Galaxy Cinemas opened in September of 2006, surpassing the Capitol 4 as the city’s largest megaplex.
This bohemeth of a theatre was instrumental in the closure of Capitol 4 and possibly that of Pacific Cinemas, as well, who couldn’t compete.
Some have criticised Galaxy Cinemas for what they perceive as destroying Saskatoon’s movie scene. It was renamed Scotiabank Theatre Saskatoon & VIP in 2014.

Just looking at what’s playing today at the Centre cinemas, it seems to me that they are all recent releases, so I don’t see the problem.
And this will be changed to Scotiabank Theatre Saskatoon and VIP Cinemas later this year.

Now the name is official: Scotiabank Theatre Saskatoon & VIP.
Just a correction on the main write-up: Pacific didn’t close because it couldn’t compete. It closed because the company that owned the Galaxy owned Pacific and Capitol 4/Empire and only wanted one theatre downtown, which is a shame.
