Movies On Exchange opened in 1976 and closed in 2009. Movies on Exchange was located at 10 Exchange Street.

After closing, the operators of this theater moved to the Portland Museum of Art in Congress Square where they continue to show foreign, classic and art films.

Thanks for the info Roger. I’ll submit an update for this theater and ask that the two locations be combined on this one listing.

I don’t think that the two should be combined. They are two separate buildings in two separate locations. There should be two separate listings.

Normally I would have added them separately but the current location isn’t actually a theater building, it’s part of the museum. If you want to add the Movies On Exchange go ahead. I just felt that it wasn’t necessary to have two listings.

There are many theatres that are parts of a museum (Real Art Ways (Hartford), Aetna Theater (Hartford), and Little Cinema (Pittsfield) jump to mind as some in my neck of the woods. It’s not unusual. I just figured the two should be listed separately to reduce confusion.

The Museum Of Science in Boston has 2 theatres. One is the Omnimax and the other is a 3D theatre.
