The Reese Theatre was opened in 1946 and was designed by Harrisburg architect William Lynch Murray. An unusual feature of the building was the provision of a roof garden above the entrance and foyer. In the auditorium, seating was provided in orchestra and balcony levels. On the outer edges of the balcony were a cry room and a party room, which had plate-glass fronts. On each side of the proscenium were large murals depicting horse-drawn charioteers.
