Viewing: Photo | Street View

Opened as the Rivoli Theatre on November 25, 1918. By 1925 it was operated by Lawrence T. Lester, who torched the building in 1925. It was rebuilt and reopened as the Rex Theatre on August 12, 1929. On February 3, 1936 after some refurbishing and remodeling it became the Strand Theatre. The Strand Theatre mostly ran first run product. The theatre was operated by Wilby Kincey for Paramount.

The Strand Theatre closed in 1958 and has since been demolished.

Lawrence T. Lester was accused, tried, and not found guilty of arson when the silent-era Rivoli Theatre at this address was torched in 1925. Photos of the pre-torched Rivoli here. Rebuilt as the Rex Theatre in the sound era becoming the Strand.

Another strand theatre opened on October 19th, 1915. Could this be the same one?
