Guildford Regent Theatre

Viewing: Photo | Street View

Located in the west Sydney suburb of Guildford. Originally opened in 1913 as the Elite Hall. By the 1930’s it had been re-named Regent Theatre and was operated by the Western Suburbs Cinemas chain. It was probably the smallest cinema in their chain.

Taken over by Hoyts Theatre in March 1944, at some time in the late-1940’s/early-1950’s the facade of the Regent Theatre was modernised. The Regent Theatre was closed in February 1967.

This page from the Australian Museum of Motion Picture and Television has information about a Regent Theatre in Guildford, but the description does not match that given above, and the address is different, yet it seems odd that there would have been two theatres named Regent operating at approximately the same time in Guildford.
