La Scala Cinema

The La Scala Cinema was opened on 6th October 1913. It was built for George Henry Kemp, and originally had a seating capacity for 1,000. The stage was 20 feet deep and there were three dressing rooms.

The La Scala Cinema was twinned in the 1970’s, with screen 1 having 300 seats and screen 2 with 192 seats. It was closed in mid-1993.

The building was purchased by the J.D. Wetherspoon chain of pubs in 1998, and it re-opened as The Salt Cot on 26th October 1999. Unfortunately, none of the original interior decoration survives.
