The Rio Grande Theatre in downtown Las Cruces was opened in July 1926. It was closed about 1998 and donated to the Dona Ana Arts Council a year later. Currently funds are being raised to renovate the theater for live events.

The theatre opened on July 29, 1926 with the film Mare Nostrum, directed by Rex Ingram and staring Alice Terry and Antonio Moreno.

A Wurlitzer theater organ opus 1882 style “B” special was installed in the Rio Grande Theater on 5/21/1928. Status: sold.
