Playhouse Cinema

Located in North Berwick, East Lothian. The Playhouse Cinema was built on the site of the Empire Cinema. It was opened on 7th July 1938 with Shirley Temple in “Heidi”. It was built by Scotts Empires Ltd. a subsidiary of the Caledonian Associated Cinemas Ltd. chain. It was equipped with a British Acoustic(BA) sound system and had a 25ft wide proscenium.

It was closed around 1980 and fell into decay. It was demolished in late-December 1986. A block of flats now stands on the site.
