Kozy Cinema

In the Trent Vale district of Stoke-on-Trent, the Kozy Cinema opened on 14th September 1922. It was of wooden construction, remembered in the 1940’s as being “very basic but comfortable”.

The first appearance I am aware of in the Kinematograph Year Books was 1934, by which time a British Thomson-Houston(BTH) sound system had been installed (later replaced by a British Talking Pictures(BTP) system). At that time it was operating on “pictures and variety”, with one show nightly. The stage was 19ft deep and there were three dressing rooms.

The Kozy Cinema (sometimes spelt “Kosy”) Cinema closed around 1960.

The building was subsequently demolished. A block of flats stands on the site.
