The cinema was opened as the the Cinema Picture House on Christmas Day 1911, seating 633. In 1920, a major refurbishment saw the façade heightened and the addition of a balcony, raising the number of seats to 1,314. Further refurbishments were carried out in 1937 and 1971, the latter following a fire.

The cinema closed in May 1982 and was later demolished. An office block named Regent House now stands on the site.
