Remnants of Times Square’s Loew’s Mayfair Theater
NEW YORK, NY — With the recent closing of the souvenir store it housed, the former Mayfair Theatre is now hanging in the balance. Untapped Cities took a look inside at some of the features still existing from its previous usage as a theatre as much was lost following a 2007 renovation.

Marley Station theater closes
GLEN BURNIE, MD — After 25+ years, the Movies at Marley Station has closed. Regal did not release any comment on the closure but the mall director claimed an exciting announcement is on the way for the space.

Elko Speedway getting new drive-in
ELKO NEW MARKET CITY, MN — It’s not everyday you hear about a new drive-in but the folks at the Elko Speedway are doing exactly that with the opening of one this summer. The seasonal theater will truly be a throwback though with its use of the screen from the shuttered Cottage View Drive-In.

The most interesting parking lot ever

The ‘dome’ remembered
PLEASANT HILL, CA — The beloved CineArts may be gone along with its unforgettable dome but its image could live on. The developer of the site announced plans to commemorate the theatre through a tile mural, a bronze plaque and eight pavers stamped with a drawing of the dome. These features will be in various locations around the new building.

Theater owners abandon Mallory Brook Cinema Nine
BARKHAMSTED, CT — Nothing but a handwritten sign spelled the end for the Mallory Brook Cinema 9 which abruptly closed in October. Its former operator, Cinema Holdings Group has been unavailable for comment but the property owner is trying to bring a new one in.

Golden State Theatre million dollar price reduction
MONTEREY, CA — Today the Golden State Theatre Complex has been reduced in price a million dollars to $3,990,000. The prime downtown Monterey building includes three restaurants, two more retail shops, two floors of office / creative space and the 1,000 seat theater in a street-to-street 27,570 square foot building. The new price equates to $145 per square foot for the owner-occupied performing arts center supplemented with over $170,000 per year in rental income from the retail storefronts and restaurants. There is also close to 4,000 square feet of vacant office or creative space ideal for conversion to residential apartments.

Historic drive-in for sale
GRANBURY, TX — The 60-year old Brazos Drive-In is for sale from its owner of 28 years. They haven’t converted to digital yet but they hope to show whatever 35mm films they can get this upcoming season. Price tag: $575K.

Waynesville movie theater seeks help creating historical timeline
WAYNESVILLE, NC — The Strand Theatre is building a timeline of its history in its hallway and is looking for participation in filling it in. Anyone with memories or photos is encouraged to contact them asap.
