Downtown Buffalo’s only movie theater may soon go dark
BUFFALO, NY — The 7-screen Market Arcade is facing a tough decision as it hasn’t made the jump to digital. That’s not the only hurdle though as the theatre is in desperate needs of upgrades across the board.

Studio M Theatre closed
MIDLAND, MI — The three-screen Studio M Theatre in the Valley Plaza in Midland MI closed on December 1. It first opened in 1968 as a single screener which was twinned in 1978 with the third screen added in 1979. It was a victim of competition from the NCG Midland Cinemas and not being able to afford digital projectors.

Swap Shop celebrates 50 years
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — The Swap Shop had its 50th Anniversary a couple weeks ago, eerily on the same date as the JFK Assassination. The 14-screen complex is still going strong with almost 100 acres of entertainment.

State Registry Review Board approves Fiske nomination now on to National Park Service
BATON ROUGE, LA — Oak Grove’s own Fiske Theatre was approved in a unanimous decision for nomination to the National Registry of Historic Places, November 21 by the Louisiana State National Registry Review Board and is now waiting for notification from the United States National Park Service for final approval and listing to the National Registry.
“This is huge not only for the theatre, but for the Town of Oak Grove and everyone in West Carroll Parish,” Adam T. Holland, President of Holland Entertainment who operates the theatre for the W.C. Chamber said. “Being included on this list brings with it much prestige for the theatre and our town, along with possible grants for Historic Preservation.”

Look back at Michigan Drive-Ins

Onarga Theater saved
ONARGA, IL — After being cited as a theatre in danger last year, the Onarga Theater has been saved thanks to generous donations. The city of 1,300 stepped up to raise enough money for digital projection and first-run films could be back as early as next week.

Movie theater set for opening in 2015 in Chapel Hill
CHAPEL HILL, NC — The University Mall will become more of an evening destination with the 2015 opening of a 13-screen premium theater. Silverspot Cinema is building the luxury complex that will include a full restaurant and state-of-the-art theaters in the space currently occupied by Dillard’s.

New owners bring Capitol II to the next level
NEWTON, IA — The Bleeker family has only owned the Capitol II for a year but they’ve already faced a massive challenge with their upcoming digital conversion. They’ve received tremendous community support though so they’ll be able to make the jump early next year. They are available for hosting special events and parties and regardless of their film situation, will be showing plenty of hits this holiday season.
