    Warner Cascade Project reaches Kickstarter goal

    NEW CASTLE, PA — “It was a nail biter right up to the end,” said Jerry Kern, President of the Historic Warner Cascade Theatre. The non-profit group who recently changed their name from the Warner Film Center, narrowly reached their goal of $23,126 in the final hours of their month long Kickstarter fundraising campaign. “For several weeks we were stalled at about the $2,999 level,” explained Kern, “then in the final week, our supporters rallied to our email and Facebook solicitations with more than four dozen supporters from around the country to pledge amounts ranging from $5 to $500 each. We hit our goal at 8:40 PM on January 31st, the last day of the campaign with less than 10 hours to go.”

    Hardacre group buys Tipton theater

    TIPTON, IA — The future is looking brighter for the Hardacre Theatre following a successful fundraising campaign. The Hardacre Theater Preservation Society brought in over $100K so they could purchase the theatre but they still need over a million to make necessary renovations to keep it going. However, the main takeaway is that the public wants the theatre to stay open (and will contribute to make it a reality).

    Fiske Theatre gets national recognition

    OAK GROVE, LA — The nomination hinted at months ago has now become a reality as the Fiske Theatre is now on the National Register of Historic Places. This is the first building in the entire city to reach this designation.

    Parkchester community seeks to preserve 74-year-old theater

    BRONX, NY — Locals are getting behind reopening the American Theater, which Bow Tie operated until it closed last Fall. They’ve already put together a petition with 1,000+ signatures to reopen it and has also spoken with the Landmark Preservation Commission.

    Memphis movie theater book released

    MEMPHIS, TN — This new book was released in November in the Images of America series is written by Cinema Treasures contributor Vincent Astor, who is a native Memphian and local historian. With 127 pages and 220 photographs assembled from the Memphis Public Library, Memphis Heritage, Malco Theatres collection and personal collections of the Astor family. Vincent Astor has much to tell with his local knowledge of the theatres of Memphis which gives this book, like others in the series, ample historic information to accompany the photographs. A great read and a ‘must have’ for collectors of movie theatre books.

    Drive-in to reopen in Paramount

    PARAMOUNT, CA — The Los Angeles area hasn’t exactly been kind to drive-ins over the years. That’s about to change though with plans announced to reopen the Paramount Drive-In. They plan to have two new 75-foot movie screens and digital projectors and still keep the swap meet, that had initially shut the theatre down, open during the day.
