NY Times highlights Westchester’s gems
WESTCHESTER, NY — My personal favorite growing up, the Fine Arts, may be gone but there are still some interesting places to catch an indie flick in Westchester County. With the recent opening of the Alamo Drafthouse, the New York Times featured that theatre along with the Pelham Picture House and the Jacob Burns Film Center. Was your favorite left out?

Warner Film Center launches “Kickstarter” campaign
NEW CASTLE, PA — The Warner Film Center proudly announces its “Kickstarter” fundraising program with the generous support of the Lawrence County Commissioners. “Kickstarter” is an online platform that makes it gloriously easy to contribute to WFC’s re-creation of the Warner Brothers’ first nickelodeon theatre, in downtown New Castle.
This campaign and has a goal of $23,128 – one dollar for every person in New Castle – and the County Commissioners have promised to match every dollar donated through “Kickstarter” up to the goal amount.

Tivoli Cinemas saved
KANSAS CITY, MO — Another theatre is saved by a Kickstarter as the Tivoli Cinemas have now raised enough for digital projectors. The art-house triplex even ended up with a little money to spare.

Bellis Fair 6 may close
BELLINGHAM, WA — A mall renovation could lead to the demolition of the Bellis Fair 6 next year. The loss of the discount theatre would leave only a couple local options if it closed.

Elizabethtown theatre to go on auction today
ELIZABETHTOWN, PA — Following a bank foreclosure, Movie Town is up for auction today at 11am. While there is no minimum bid, you need to make a $20K deposit. The theatre does not have digital projectors yet too.

Ottawa movie theater could be world’s oldest
OTTAWA, KS — Owners of the Plaza Grill have done their homework and are working to get noticed by the Guinness Book as the world’s oldest continuously operating theatre. They’re still going strong too and have many original elements.

Casey Affleck speaks out about reopening Harvard Square
CAMBRIDGE, MA — The Harvard Square Theatre has been closed since July 2012 with no feasible reopening plans on the table. However, actor Casey Affleck has spoken out about the need to make it an arts venue again. He hasn’t found the partners to do it though and so far there has been no communication with the building’s owner.
