The Virginia Marine Science Museum (and its IMAX theatre are NOT part of Dam Neck Naval Base. It’s on its own lot in Virginia Beach, totally separate from any military base, and accessible to all.

It is open. Now known at the Beach Cinema Alehouse, it’s a dinner and a movie theatre. http://www.beachcinemaalehouse.com/

Still open and showing first-run movies with the occasional foreign/art film. One of only two theatres on Virginia’s eastern shore that still show first-run films.

jeffconn commented about Palace Theatre on Jun 28, 2016 at 11:40 am

The Palace is mostly a community center with live concerts and plays, but still shows the occasional classic movie. The Palace has a balcony that is divided, as the projection booth is the middle of the balcony. Each side balcony seats approximately 30 people.

Chuck, the VAMS theater is inside the museum, so it was never a seperate commercial theater, although it does show the latest IMAX movies.

jeffconn commented about Towers Theatre on Jul 15, 2012 at 8:05 pm

This theater was actually called the Towers Theatre, as it was located next to Towers Mall in Roanoke. It has been demolished, and a newer shopping center was put in its place.

jeffconn commented about Surfside Cinema on Jun 18, 2011 at 12:11 am

The Surfside was set off Highway 90 a bit, and the location isn’t quite close to anything. A few years ago, there was a sign on the site announcing a new high-end condo development. But the economy may have killed that project, and may have delayed the demolition of the Surfside.

The multiplex was part of the Little Creek East Shopping Center. It has been chopped up and new stores have taken over its place.

Spotted a sign posted on the Riverview today:

“AVAILABLE
ALL BROKERS PROTECTED
630-2342 773-2338”

That’s area code 757, by the way.

jeffconn commented about Rosna Theatre on Mar 4, 2009 at 8:46 am

The ROSNA is for sale. A cloth sign is draped over the marquee saying:

“AVAILABLE
TO BE RENOVATED
700 SEAT HISTORIC THEATER
630-2342 773-2338
ALL BROKERS PROTECTED”

That’s area code 757 if anyone is interested. One of the storefronts in the building is occupied by a restaurant.
