At markp, I uploaded the grand opening ad when it went to 8 screens on August 21, 1981 in the photos sections. I was researching from the New Jersey newspapers online.
Which screens had Dolby Stereo when you there and it was 70MM. When did Amboy finally go all Dolby in the 90’s.
Also, they only cut two theatres in half. The Sunrise in Valley Stream that open the same date, the cut 4 original auditoriums in half.
I was not a big fan of long bowling alley theatres, but that must of been a 1970 and 1980 thing to do. The newer theatres at least they build them better.
Please update, theatre expanded to 15 screens on May 29, 1998 by the previous owners Majic Johnson Theatres (screens were expanded to the complex, similar to Danbury, Freehold and Monmouth expansions)
Please update, theatre closed December 2, 1982 with Horror Planet, Creep Show, Hands of Lighting and Alone in The Dark. It was a twin as Blue and Red, never 3 screens. The Multiplex open October 28, 1983. A better improved grand opening ad in photos section and the name of the twins in the photos section.
Please update, theatre expanded to 8 screens on August 21, 1981 (Grand opening ad in photos), 10 on June 11, 1982, 11 on December 21, 1984, 12 on November 8, 1985 and 14 on December 11, 1987
Please update, became a 12 plex on November 11, 1985 added on to the complex, 13 screens on October 9, 1987 and 14 on December 4, 1987. To make it 14 screens, two 512 seat screen were split in half. No grand opening ads for the new screens.
It looks like this theatre will reopen soon, here the link to the story https://www.app.com/story/money/business/main-street/2021/06/14/atlantic-highlands-movie-theater-july-opening/7635112002/
