The cinema was held in the Clonard Hall, a former school, and was a travelling cinema called the Majestic. Presumably it was the same Majestic that called at Killucan in Westmeath once a week during the 1950s to screen films.
On the Ritz’s birthday on the 28th of January 1963 a performance called “The Christmas Cracker” was held. The performances lasted four weeks, with surprise appearences from the likes of Sean Meaney.
Additional information. A Cosey Cinema Hall is mentioned in the Kerryman newspaper in 1928 but no evidence to suggest that the two buildings are one in the same. When up for sale in 1936 the above is advertised as having a British Acoustic sound system and Gaumont projectors.
