OSAGE, IA — Our good friends at the Watts received some well-deserved recognition after being profiled in our book and listed as one of USA Today’s 10 Great Places.

The local CBS television affiliate ran a segment quoting manager Earl Kennedy, “It’s a very, very short list. It’s just awesome to me to be included on the list. It is wonderful, it’s a one of a kind experience and I consider it a huge honor.”

To Mary Peiper’s article in The Globe Gazette he added, “In the age of the multiplex it seems small town theaters are going out the door. But the Watts has always been one to buck the trend.”

Cinema Treasures co-authors Ross Melnick and Andreas Fuchs recently chose 10 classic cinemas from across the United States for USA Today’s weekly travel feature, “10 Great Places.” The list is not a “top ten,” but rather a varied programming, geographical, and architectural selection of “Cinema Treasures” from across the nation.

Just wanted to let UK readers know about the website where I ordered the Cinema Treasures book — Ottakers Bookshops that have told me they can have it in a week.

Ottakers in the UK are quite a good size chain - Waterstones only had 2 copies - 1 in Oxford Street, London and 1 in York. Borders couldn’t find it at all on any of their databases.

SANDPOINT, ID — The Bonner County Daily Bee recently profiled the Panida Theater and its inclusion in our new book, "Cinema Treasures." Dedicated to the people of the Panhandle of Idaho, the theater opened in 1927 and remains a local cultural and entertainment center. It is one of 30 theaters profiled in the book.

This holiday season don’t be surprised when you see Cinema Treasures at your local theater and/or multiplex.

Through the generosity of our friends in the industry and great support from MBI Publishing, we have been able to secure pre-show slides in some 875 screens across the country.

TRAVERSE CITY, MI — The Sunday edition of the Traverse City Record Eagle included an article about the new Cinema Treasures book.

Since Traverse City is home to the City Opera House, which is one of the many theaters featured in our book, the article includes comments from Ross Melnick and Andrea Fuchs, as well as those involved in preserving the theater.

PEEKSKILL, NY — The Paramount Center for the Arts will celebrate the release of Cinema Treasures: A New Look at Classic Movie Theaters, by Ross Melnick and Andreas Fuchs, from MBI Publishing, with a public reception on Thursday, October 21st, at 6:00pm.

The Paramount was selected as one of thirty movie theaters nationwide to be featured in this ambitious and evocatively illustrated, published account of the rise of the American movie theater.
