Beautiful 1920’s hall still retaining much of the original Art Deco plasterwork, red velvet gallery seating and marvelous proscenium arch.
Once showed regular films to local community and extensive tourist trade from inbuilt 35mm projection room. Community use also for live theatre and other events.
Screening facilites sold off 1970’s but revistalised by regular ‘alternative film nights’ by Real Institute from 2000 to date.
Major re-build plans under way to renovate and convert to 24/7 community arts centre, retaining architectural beauty and reintroducing daily film screenings.

On the 25th June 2008 the Real Institute announced it was now homeless as the commitee of the Memorial Hall wanted to use the Hall for a different purpose. It is not known what has become of it.
The Lessee in 1951 (and apparently from around 1940 until closure was Mr. G.E.H. James, who also ran cinemas at Llanfairfechan, Menai Bridge, Bethesda, Dolgellau, Llanberis, and Llanrwst. It was he who installed the British Thompson-Houston sound system and admission prices in 1951 were 1/– to 2/–.
I’ve uploade a photograph of the Memorial Hall, which I took in 2010. Please click on photos.
Sorry I didn’t know of this venue, which was probably not functioning when I stayed over for a couple of nights. Just one of the many charming buildings in a lovely area where the predominant sound is of many small waterfalls.
