Located in the Saltaire district of the Yorkshire town of Shipley, north of Bradford. The Saltaire Picture House was opened on 17th June 1922 with “Our Mutual Friends”. It was operated by the New Century Pictures circuit. It was designed by architect William Illingworth of Bradford. Seating was provided in stalls and circle levels. Designed in a Renaissance style, there was a large ‘golden’ dome in the centre of the auditorium ceiling. In March 1928 it was taken over by the Denman/Gaumont Theatres chain.
It was re-named Gaumont in 1948. The Gaumont was closed on 19th October 1957 with Kirk Douglas in “Lust for Life”. It was demolished and a petrol filling station was built on the site.
