People's Hall

Located in Denton, Lancashire, in the east of Greater Manchester. The People’s Hall was on Prestwich Street (which no longer exists) off Wilton Street. It was designed by architects J.W. & R.F. Beaumont of Manchester and opened as a recreation hall on 17th July 1886. In 1908 it was converted into a cinema and had a 22 feet wide proscenium. Around 1930 it was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system. In 1938 it had become part of the J.F. Emery Cinema Circuit and they were the operators until 1951. It was closed in 1958 with Alan Ladd in “The Deep Six”.

It was converted into Rollerama, a roller skating rink, but was subsequently closed and demolished in 2002, and the site is now part of the Crown Park North Shopping Park.
