In the south Lanarkshire town of Strathaven the Ritz Cinema was declared open by famous entertainer Sir Harry Lauder in 1938.

Although locally owned at first, it was quickly sold to Caledonian Associated Cinemas Ltd. chain.

The Ritz Cinema was still open in 1969. It became a garage in the 1970’s. More recently it has been converted into a block of flats.
