The Metropol Kino is the oldest standing cinema in Dusseldorf, celebrating its 76th birthday in 2016. The original hall opened on March 4, 1940 and was destroyed by allied bombs during World War II.
It was rebuilt in 1949 with more that 800 seats. In 1965 was demolished and replaced by a hall with 199 seats and a hotel. Adopted in 1979 by Udo Heimansberg was extended in the 1990’s to a second theater, the Phantom and the Cinema Cafe Playtime. The main cinema has now 142 seats and the Phantom hall has 42 seats.
