Was in Wildwood yesterday for the first time in many years. The Strand is closed. All retail now. Same for the Ocean Theatre a few blocks down. There is this big water slide attraction where the Shore Theatre once stood. Its so sad. I remember in the 80’s going to all those theatres.

NewYorker64, my wife was one of the many dressers on last years show, which was awesome. (sad to say shes not working it this year, shes the head dresser on Cirque Paramour at the Lyric.) Ive heard nothing but good things about it. She will probably be back for the equally great Christmas show in the fall.

misterrick, I did not know any of the projectionists from the union up there. I only did matinee shows when they couldn’t fill them. The manager when I worked there was a guy named Ralph Siroli, a quite weird little guy. I remember John Monsport from the 80’s. I do agree with ianz, it was a nice little theatre.

A Blue Ale House Resturant is being built into the area near where the screen and stage house use to be.

hdtv267, as much as I love film, having been a union projectionist for 40 years, even I have to admit the film is dead. I didn’t want to believe it 3 years ago when I lost my full time job, but aside from being able to run Hateful 8 in 70MM over Christmas holidays, even now I can see film is dead. Ive come to accept (not mean like) digital, and Ive not seen any laser. So all these people who keep wondering, well keep wondering, because even this old seasoned veteran projectionist can tell you film is dead.

Yes CJ1949 is correct. My father was a projectionist at the Jerry Lewis Twin Cinema in Carteret. Opened on 6/7/1972. That first year was fantastic but as soon as 1973 started, the movie bookings went double feature, prices were reduced and soon payroll wasn’t being met. He stopped getting payroll checks from Network Cinema Corp in March 73 and from then on it was run by an independent. Kind of sad in a way because it was a nice little twin in a great shopping center right off exit 12 of the turnpike.

Very nice. Not too crazy about the multi colored seats.

RobertEndres, I worked for the same owner of this theatre when it was an adult theatre. I worked for the Sayrewoods Theatre in Old Bridge NJ, which had Century projectors and Peerless arc lamps, till we went xenon in 1985. We too were always paid cash, and I remember getting a lot of my prints from the Globe after they ran them. Always covered with oil. I worked part time for 12 years in my theatre, from 1978 till 1990 when it was demolished for a highway project

Kevin, it sounds like the same improvements they made to their Hazlet 12 in Hazlet NJ about a year ago. Did they put in electric recliners like Hazlet??

In recent days there appears to be some activity going on around the building. It looks like perhaps the old electric service has been disconnected or is being readied for the new project about to get underway.

No they did not Mike (saps). They welcomed it. Of course the movies that were made with those processes were movies with real stories, not the 90% of the crap they put out today. Just my opinion.

hdtv267, I thought so too. I think they are talking about all the ra ra bells and whistles and crap that I have no desire to sit thru. Being a projectionist since 1975 and coming from a family of projectionists, I could care less about shaking seats, recliners, spraying scents, digital laser crap, and sound that blows my eardrums out. But yes it seems that’s all that matters these days here, especially for a few select AMC plexes.

Just drove by it today. There is a huge banner hung on the side of the building. It says “Carteret Performing Arts Center” 1600 seat auditorium. Live entertainment and broadway shows. Opening 2018.

I can see this theatre closing once AMC assumes control of it after the Carmike purchase is complete.

Since AMC just purchased Carmike (this is currently a Carmike Theatre) I can see this place closing once AMC assumes control.

Guess it would have helped to see the grand opening ad see it was built as a twin.

markp commented about Northpark West 1 & 2 on Mar 5, 2016 at 7:35 am

I was curious if this was a split down the middle theatre or twinned as an add on. Also to CaptainRob, I think your old UA GM had inflated the price of that print back in 84. I just ran the Hateful 8 over Christmas in 70MM in New York City. I had been in contact with Weinstein Pictures directly and was told the entire 3 hour and 7 min print cost was just over $25,000.00. And my print ran 2 weeks with zero issues.

EcRocker, Im sure something would be addressed about the stage door issue. Many years ago (mid 80’s) when we had live shows at the Ritz Theatre in Elizabeth NJ, our stage door was on Jefferson St with parking, etc. The city would just close off that one block to traffic on load in days. Not the best scenario, but it worked.

Small world. My best friend was the manager who opened the place. I cleaned the screens there a few times when I had my business. Hope all is well. I was a projectionist at many GCC sites including Menlo Park, Woodbridge, Blue Star, Brunswick and Bridgewater from 1977 till the early 2000’s. I lasted full time until May 2013 when digital finally got me. Im a stagehand now mostly at the Prudential Center in Newark NJ.

We shouldn’t lose hope in the Keiths. As bad a shape as shes in, the RKO Proctors in Newark NJ has been sitting abandoned since the mid 60’s. Still standing. Still waiting.
