Oh yes. I visited that drum shop. Great owner. Lots of famous people have come in.

It reopened in 1996? I don’t agree. Setlists at www.max.creek.com, show them playing there for the first time on 11/24/89, 3/9/90, 3/22/91, 4/11/91, nothing in 92-95, 4/27/96, 7/13/96, 11/27/96 and 12/31/96. After that they played there at least 4-6 times a year.

It wasn’t showing films there in 1990, rather the seats were still intact and so was the screen. It could have been vacant around then.

Well, he had a point about movies being kept out of a great market. He may have had his failings but let’s not praise some certain corporations for doing a good job when in fact they aren’t.

Well it’s big buck lawyers that defeat you. I’d withdraw the case after 10 years of court battles. Damn, I was in a court case that continued for 2 years, it’s enough to drive you bonkers. My cousin had his story and story idea he wrote for a website stolen by George Lucas' company and basically after countless hours of talking with his lawyers they told him, “we have millions and you have nothing and that’s all there is.”

Here’s some recent links from the New Haven Advocate. The first one is the most recent letter to the editor from owner Peter Spodick, setting the record straight.

I stopped by Criterion on Friday at 11:50am but it wasn’t open yet. I presumed it opened at 12pm since i had to catch a train but I guess it opens today. Around the back on bike i couldn’t see any remnants of a theater architecturally. I guess it was just office space reconverted?

The wall isn’t so dramatic, really. It was a porn theater until 1990 and the greatest northeast band, Max Creek performed there in 1990 when it ceased as a porn theater, the stage was there but the nasty seats were still there.

Actually that website was wrong, it’s http://www.arkadiaclub.com/ and they list themselves as 16 Broad Street.

I can’t believe I didn’t find this place when I was there! It’s a very small town in NW Cape Cod near the Cape Cod Canal.

I was just in Hyannis a few times last week. I didn’t recall seeing a facade or rear of the building that mirrored a cinema and I found it quite odd since it’s a real happening town.

I met the owner of the bistro next door to the theater in the same complex on the beach the other day. She lives in West Hartford, CT and her friend runs her place. I heard the other day from a local about a rumor to close the theater next year and put in a restaurant to utilize the big space in back for a patio. What a shame since it’s very popular. The rumor is Cinema 3 will be it.

I asked the workers at Cinema 1 and 2 and Cinema 3 has 72 seats.

By the way, I asked the workers and each theatre has 150 seats for a total of 300. Cinema 3 has 72 seats but they are shorthanded and Cinema 3 only has one movie time per day.

I like this place a lot. I’m bike-backpacking and am currently in P-town. I saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory last night and it’s a great theatre with great sound! There’s cafes and such to either side before you walk in and there’s a small concession in the middle wiht theatres to each side and the bathrooms are nice, too. It’s nicely air-conditioned and it would kick on every once in a while as it was on a timer but it didn’t interrupt the movie sounds at all.

What a great theatre! I’ve been bike-backpacking in the cape for a few weeks. It’s on Route 6 where inns dot the landscape and it’s a few miles from one of the town’s centers. They have found a niche and a way to stay in business all year round. They have one movie screen as well as a mini-golf course (that’s very subpar, no pun intended), a restaurant, a bar that faces the golf course with ice cream, etc. The adjacent field serves as a weekly flea market, the largest of its kind in the area. The staff are awesome too.

I talked to Chris Durante recently and he said after it was a movie house, it also housed a gymnasium and then a boxing school.

My friend’s boyfriend apparently is being paid by the landlords for the last few years to restore the Palace’s interiors. He told me he doesn’t believe in ghosts but clearly hears talking, whispering and laughter and slamming of doors when he’s along in the wee hours. He also told me he could take me on a tour. He said there are 5 floors of dressing rooms in the back and when he discovered them, there were still clothes on the hangers!

Correction from an earlier comment I made, the old mall was not where the Capitol was located, that was the old Amphenol building behind HART’s “The Pulse Point” which will be condos shortly.

Bethel is celebrating their 150th anniversary next week and there’s a whole series of articles in this week’s paper and online. They did mention that this “Opera House” was built in Italian Vernacular and was never “really” an opera house but that it was called one because people were looking for entertainment. Apparently, now it’s known as the Opera House cafe and restaurant. There was a piano player in the middle of the roller rink.

What a disappointment. I live in Danbury and go there all the time. Saw the Ramones film there not too long ago and there are great black and white pics of the history of New Haven in the long lobby. What a shame.
