I think my favorite is the Pantages image. What’s yours?
My favorite is the Fox Westwood Village.
I first visited there in 1949 while on a visit to see my Aunt and Uncle. I had never visited a theater with an ‘L’ shape layout. I was intrigued. Furthermore the presentation was First Rate! This was my first experience with a waterfall curtain – the lights lowered, the curtain raised up, then the ‘second’ curtain drew back from side to side and the feature began. This was very exciting to a 9 yr old and I still remember the experience as if it happened yesterday!
With all of the distruction taking place around the country, it’s nice to see the old Fox Westood Village still going strong and looking as good a ever. (My last visit there was in 2002)
Hats off to Larry Grossman, I wish you much success with your project!
The pictures are beautiful, but I question the need to plant several cars, people, birds and airplanes in every single picture. There were a few books in recent years showing “realist” style watercolors of diners, and the artist usually didn’t feel a need to put people or several cars in most. An occasional touch like that is interesting, though. I enjoy the differences in sky and lighting, and like the spotlights seen in The Pantages. In that one, the vehicles and people serve a purpose for a premier. The Star Theatre would look better with two people and removal of the Nash on the right. Others may like the additional details, and I hope I’m not being too critical.
I dig what you’re saying dwodeyla. Then again that car parked in front of the Fremont is perfect for that photo. Hands down that is my favorite print. Also, the detail on the top of the Vista is excellent.
My favorite is the Cinerama Dome. Something about that sky, and the jet plane flying overhead … it looks like a shot from Black Orpheus. One more reason: I finally got to attend a Cinerama show at the Dome last September (How the West Was Won).
Very cool prints.
