When Regal shows films like Saw Hostel and some of the other crap out there, they should not hesiate to show this film. Obviouly they are being paid off by the idiots in the GOP party for Bush.

Hey guys here is a question. What is the Ziegfeld using for this engagement for the marquee? Is it the old white with the black letters or did they get the glass one that most theaters use now like the one in the picture above

Bravo to this theater owner. The films this year have sucked. This is one of the worst years I can remember in a long time. Hollywood certainly has put out a bunch of crap this summer.
Yeah going independant may be a great way to go when the regular films are so terrible.

Did anybody go to GWTW Thursday? What format did they present it in?

Crazy Bob
Wasn’t the original screen that was in the front blown down during a storm which is when they moved it in the back? I never knew the Frank’s owned it from the begining.

Bill
I hope the Ziegfeld ast least shows the 1.85 version. A few years ago when they had the big 60 year re release I saw it at a Regal stadium theater and it was a 16mm print. I was pissed. They opened the masking like they would for scope and you had this little square picture in the middle of this huge wall to wall screen.

Craig
Are you the Craig that managed the Ziegfeld in the early 80’s? I worked for Joe Torres at the Festival in 81 and 82.

Interesting point Luis V . I live in Asheville, NC and even though the theaters are open 365 days a year, Many resturants and small groceriy stores are closed on Sunday like the old days in the 60’s and 70’s. I actually went to films last year on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. They fell on Sat and that is usuallyour movie night.

I think that commercial chains don’t observe religious holidays. I guess with the diversity of different religons it would be hard. To my knowledge, most thetaers are open 365 days a year. Christmas has become more of a commeriocal holiday tham religious. You do make a good point Alto since this really isn’t a copmmerical theater.

This just pisses me off. I knew once AMC took over Loews they would pull this crap. Another great theater is going to bite the dust. I would bet the Lowes 732nd St East in nYC will be next becuase it is a singler screen theater.

Mikeoaklandpark commented about Virginia Theatre on Sep 8, 2006 at 1:55 am

Crazy Bob
The Virginia got rid of the V in 1968 when they put up a totally new sign on top the marquee. I old sign was green letters and was much betterthan the new one installed which was whire with red letters. I did not know Hamid owned the Stadium theater in Phila, I can’t imagine they had Todd Ao at the Virgina. The only time I was in the theater was to see Hello Dolly and the screen was small, no curtains or masking. For a roadshow theater, the Virginia was tacky.

Mikeoaklandpark commented about Gateway Theatre on Sep 7, 2006 at 7:53 am

The problem with this theater is it needs to be remodeled badly. It could definately use new seats. I left Ft Lauderdale in 2005 and over the 10 years I was there went many times to the Gateway. In 2000 they had a big celebration for the 50th anniversary. The thing I loved going there and the Galleria was they use real butter on the popcorn. I know the Galleria was damage last year with Hurricane Wilma. Is that why they didn’t re-open? I know the Doubletree hotel next door was trying for many tyears to buy the property.

TLA should use the auditorium as a theater if it is still intact. For many years they had a theater in Phila on Chestnut street along with the video store.

I agree with what you wrote Theater Buff. Atlantic City was a disaster not only to business owners, but people like myself wholoved the fun city it was before the casino’s. Not one of the great old movie houses in AC survived not to mention old great restaurants.
Sorry to hear this theater isn’t opening as sonn as next year as playbill had in there article.

There is also the old Demille in Broadway aka Embassy 2,3 4. That would be a great theater to see reopened. Tampa had a bunch of theaters that closed in early 2000. I am not sure what happened to them but here is a list. Northdale Court 6, Main Street 5, Movies at Mission Bell, University 6, Hillsboro 8, Horizon Park 4, Varsity 6.
