robboehm , I thought there had been a listing also but I could be wrong.

I tried to snap a few other cinemas yesterday but there was too much traffic both vehicle and pedestrian.

I will try again early on a Sunday morning.

I had based the opening date upon the fact that the first film I saw there was “The Fabulous Baker Boys” and for some reason I always thought I went there right after it opened.

Yes I was wrong.

I just found this in “The Toronto Star” of “Friday September 30th 1983”

“Drabinsky’s Ciniplex chain today opens its sixth and most impressive movie complex in Toronto at Market Square opposite the St.Lawrence north market…”

Off Topic but I didn’t know where else to ask.

When I create a new location why do I have to wait for it to appear on the site before attatching photos?

Why not have a system where you can attatch at least one image when you create the listing?

I haven’t had a problem viewing photos but I haven’t been on very much.

They have $5.00 Tuesday for the early performances!

Now if only they would bring back 25c popcorn.

The address at the top of this page is wrong. It should be “677 Bloor Street West”

These are the correct coordinates.

http://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&ll=43.788569,-79.543076&spn=0.008427,0.021007&z=16

The Drive-In has been replaced by the “Famous Players Colossus Toronto” however it should be noted that despite the word “Toronto” in the name this location is not actualy and has never been in Toronto it is in “Vaughan”

Ross Melnick – Thank You for your response.

GaryParks – Yes in this digital age most people my self included take way too many photos.

My first camera was a “Kodak Instamatic” and as the film only held 12 or 18 shots I gave serious thought before clicking.

I uploaded a few photos yesterday and today and they are all photos that I took myself and can be found in my Flickr Account.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/theghostofgraingertown/

I however worry that admin might take them down as I have also posted them on other websites and the assumption could be made that I snagged them from those sites when in fact I am the one who originaly posted them.

I think there was an entry for the “Market Square Cinemas” which was originaly the “Ciniplex Odeon Market Square” but some how it disapeared.

PS I am the same person as scruffywilber. I forgot my password and closed my eMail account so I came back under my real name.

Here are two photos from April 2011.
The view hasn’t changed much since September 2008.
The main difference being that the Pub/Night Club has changed name.

The Century Theatre was located at “309 Lakeshore Road East, Oakville, ON L6J1J3” That stretch of Lakeshore Road would have been called “Colborne Street” when the cinema opened.

When I moved to Oakville in 1982 it was operating as an independant cinema called “The Palm” the last movie to show there was “Accidental Tourist” in 1989

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094606/

After that it became a “Night Club” “The Ozone” and Radio Station CING 107.9fm in Burlington Ontario broadcast live from there on Saturday Nights.

The building is now divided into two seperate retail units.

William Mewes commented about Oakville Plaza Cinemas on Oct 11, 2010 at 9:54 pm

This buildings address is 131 Speers Road Oakville Ontario.

It was not originaly constructed as a Cinema but started off life as a bowling alley.

When it was converted to cinematic use they had to install a floor that sloped above the original floor however the gradient was never sufficient to be suitable for viewing.

Regular patrons such as myself knew to leave every second row vacant so that no one would be sitting in front of you.

This served as an “Encore Cinema” before Encore took over the building at 171 Speers Road which has its own entry here.
