We're looking for help to identify this theatre. It appears in a photograph of the victory parade along Nathan Road in 1945, after the end of the Pacific war. The name on the sign outside the building is shown in Chinese only.

I'm not sure if that was the original name, as some buildings and businesses were renamed during the occupation.

mrb,I have noticed the name of this theatre in the Chinese newspapers of the war years of Hong Kong. Its name neither appeared in the Chinese newspapers before 8th December,1941 nor after the end of WWII.I doubt whether it was the Victory Theatre on the Nathan Road.

Raymond, I was hoping you would see the message and reply, as you clearly know a lot about Hong Kong's cinemas, past & present.

The cinema stood just to the left of the buildings shown in these photos:

Does that help narrow down the location at all?

Thanks & regards, MrB

MrB,after looking at the photos carefully, the theatre was certainly the Victory Theatre.

In 1953,The Victory Theatre was rebuilt as the Ritz Cinema.

Raymond, thank you for your help. Is there any chance you know the name (or the street number) of the building that replaced the Ritz, so we can see the present-day location of the cinema?

Thanks & regards, MrB
